I am addicted to this series like it's a red smoke blunt. I usually don't read romance novels because I'm stuck up and think they are low brow but I have been fighting insomnia and been stressed out so I needed an escape. Well, 5 books later and I can't break free! I'm putting the series aside for now though because I need to get back to real life and can't keep escaping into Ward's world. The covers are embarrassing and the writing is awesomely cringe worthy at times but it fits the subject matter. Ward is an efficient and stylish writer for her genre. It is at times dated (razr fone!).

A lot of people didn't like this book but I did. I thought going into P's addiction was interesting as well as Ward's vision of the other side. She did the self sabotage, the fake facade and lies very well. I'm worried, however, about the future of the series because a number of new species were introduced and I find it really hard to believe that this evil parallel world is so intense but the humans just don't know about it. Mhis that strong? Also it is annoying that these hunks who've been around for hundreds of years have never found a mate and then they all suddenly do...perhaps you could argue that when the King ascended to leadership, he triggered this resurgence of faith in the species, but that's is my interpretation of why all these warriors are now finding mates in every hallway and hospital.

Lover Enshrined is a dissertation on what exactly? Peas? Toothpicks? The mutilation of Lord of the Rings characters with horrible dialog? The overuse of the word "so"? As in, "I'm so not doing that". Every other freaking sentence. JR has just given up on a decent conversational flow and vocabulary.Every single person is now throwing around groaners such as "sitch", "obvi", and many other idiotic attempts to sound hip. It's just exhausting and deadening. Plus the name dropping is nonstop. They sound moronic.

The chief attraction in the earlier books was fantastic romance, sex, and action. LEn barely delivers on the first 2 at all. We really don't care about Phury and Cormia as a couple. We're told they are attracted to each other but we don't FEEL it like we did with Wrath and Beth or Rhage and Mary.
I got more of a connection between John Matthew and Cormia and was starting to wonder if the book was going to have a major twist. There is a fair amount of action, but very little with Phury; he's off in the corner doped up.

JR attempts to portray the inner mind of an addict but why the hell this inner demon is portrayed as a 3rd rate vaudeville British actor attempting Tolkien is beyond me. I was pissed off after the first 2 PAGES of the damn book! It is ridiculous. Phury comes off as whiny, pathetic and a loser. All the other brothers from the past books are almost unrecognizable. Honestly, I'm not sure why I'm giving 2 stars except that I love the world JR created and I'm hoping the next book will be better.
I thought this one was mostly good and hit most of the points I hoped Phury's book would. I'd give it 3.75 out of 5 stars.

The great stuff, and there's plenty of it. Love that this book shows us not only the relationship developing between Phury and Cormia, but also Phury's slow descent into self-destruction, and that we also see the pain simmering just below the surface in the relationship of Zsadist and Phury. What I think the author does SO SO well in this one is really paint each character as so sympathetic. Three books ago I can remember thinking I didn't really care if I ever read Phury's story. By 2/3 of the way through this book, he was my new favorite character (at least this week!) We are taken in a slow circle that is incredibly painful, and the author isn't shy about making the reader linger for a little while in an ugly place... it feels emotionally true... but comes back around to an ending in every scenario that heals the tiny wounds so completely and makes you want to cheer.

My criticism would be that I would have liked more page time between Phury and Cormia. They had a few nice scenes, but definitely not as many as some of the other characters in previous books. And while I don't mind *some* stuff with the lessers and/or John Michael and the other young tween vampires, there was a LOT of them in this book and not nearly enough of Phury and Cormia by comparison. Like I felt a little disappointed at the end because of it, even though I don't completely hate John Michael (I wouldn't mind her killing off the other two, though.) But them taking time away from the primary romance to the point that we only get like 4-5 scenes between the main characters felt cheap to me, I guess, even though the book had a lot of good points overall.
