The Lost Sisterhood A Novel Anne Fortier Books

What could capture the imagination more than the idea of higher education, Ivy League type schools and Oxford University, and Amazonia?

I was raised by readers. I had wonderful, literate, strong woman in my life from a young age. By that I don't mean "stuffy or haughty" but the "ever learning" often self taught which resonated with these beautiful strong ancient women. My first beautiful leather hardback book was "The Greek Myths". This book took me back to every adventure and quandry as I sought strong women role models without the capricious temperaments of the Goddesses.

I thoroughly enjoyed the time jumps from Ancient Greece, Troy and Ephesus to modern day Europe. The beauty of finding a matriarchal belief system that doesn't subjugate males (and not judging those that choose celibacy or outright rejecting the patriarchy).

This book tells some of our greatest myths and shows some of our classic heros/ heroines as anti-heroes, challenges us to think not only of the past, our present but the future. They are so wonderfully thought out and written.
There are a few scenarios that seem a bit "Dan Brown-ish" to me. But that's all good and fine for all the beauty, descriptive word paintings and very inspirational viewpoints of women throughout history.
I have strong, intelligent, brave daughters and I want them to read this book.
Are there Amazons living among us? I sincerely hope so

The Lost Sisterhood A Novel Anne Fortier Books Reviews

A very good writer but I enjoyed the story more a few years ago when I first read it. Thought I wanted my own copy. Didn't really care for half the story line and wanted a more northerly feel to the story. The part I liked most was when the action took place in Finland. The idea of strong women still appeals to me greatly. A very interesting view of the possible history of s.
This is the second time I have read this book within the past six months. From ancient times to the present, the threads of the story remain tight and on target. Diana, Myrena, Kara, grandmother, their strengths, their courage, their wisdom.......a tale told. One I want to believe.
In this well crafted and well researched novel Fortier presents us with relatable characters whose strength we can admire and whose flaws we can relate to. She weaves the modern tale of Diana Morgan, a young philologist, given a chance to search for evidence of s with Diana's childhood and the time she spent with her grandmother. Balancing Diana's story is the story of Myrina and Lilli and the creation of the Amozonian myths. It is a wonderful blend of adventure and drama with just the right amount of romance included.
Wow! I cannot believe I have finally finished this novel! Going into reading The Lost Sisterhood, I must tell you, I am a huge fan of present and past woven fiction, of Anne Fortier's Juliet, and the Island of Crete, so I was looking forward to this novel. And the story, it wasn't bad, but it just way too long to get through at an enjoyable pace. I felt like I spent hours reading and only got through pages, just so dense that it could have done without something. And to be frank I think that something is the present day story. Diana and her gang were fine but the real star here was the story of Myrina and I would give that story 5 stars alone.
I was riveted by this book with its action, great characters and constant on the move story line. The characters were realistic and strong. I loved the way the myths and legends of the past were interwoven in this story through not only the eyes of a modern heroine but that of an ancient heroine as well. It made me want to learn more about the women and what history has found of them and even more about Troy. I read some reviews while reading this book and they really downed this whole book. I could not understand why. I guess people expect an author to perfectly reflect a character's job or some things historic to be as accurate as possible---when dealing with myth and legend you deal with what you have and then go from there. Even sometimes history is changed up to fit the book and plot of the story being told and sometimes adds a romantic side to it. It was not like this book was written to be as historically accurate as possible but as an entertaining book that would get a reader interested in learning more about history or the legend.
This is really three books. The first 90 percent alternates between the story of the ancient s and the adventures of a modern academic trying to discover their history. I enjoyed the historical part the best especially the new take on the Trojan story. I was a little disappointed that the story ended rather abruptly. I would have liked more of Myrina.

The other story was very good with a few improbable happenings. The last 10 percent takes place in Finland and resolves the story of the s. This part tidies up the loose ends. There is also a possibility of a historical novel about Troy
I loved this novel and could not put it down until I reached the conclusion. Anne Fortier interweaves the lives of Diana Morgan, an Oxford lecturer who is a philologist specializing in the Greek Bronze age, but is passionate about the legends, with that of the first queen, Myrina, who actually lived during the Bonze Age. The Lost Sisterhood travels in time between the present and the Bronze age and in location from Oxford England to Algeria, Crete, Greece, Turkey, Germany and Finland. Diana and Myrina share much in common including courageous spirits, loyalty to family and friends, and a strong sense for adventure while devoted to their various goals and quests. Both women experience love along the way and risk much in their choices. The possibility of an culture, not just in the Bronze Age, but also in the present time is an intriguing proposition and linking it with Troy was interesting. I do agree with Ms. Fortier that a bit of the spirit exists in every woman and you can feel its stir as you read The Lost Sisterhood.
